Road Trip Travel Tip:

The Journey, Not The Destination

To kick off the blog on the new website I figured there was no better place to start than the single most important mindset you absolutely need to have when taking a road trip:

A road trip is about the Journey, not just the destination.

Red Dirt Road - Moab, Utah

As humans we are used to driving well over the speed limit, trying to rush as fast as we can to our jobs, homes and daily activities. Whether it’s running a yellow light, changing lanes to gain one or two car lengths or simply just speeding to get where you’re going as fast as you can, we’re all guilty of it in some way.

In order to have a successful road trip, the very first thing you have to do is to BREAK THESE HABITS.  Have you ever walked the same route you drive on a regular basis? Try it if you haven’t, you’ll amazed at all the things you’ve never seen before even though you drive past them every day. You want to take this same approach when you are taking a road trip and not a daily commute. I’m not telling you to drive 15 MPH under the speed limit and hold up traffic but go at a pace that allows you to appreciate your surroundings.

The point is, you never know what you’re going to find out there on the open road. So make sure to travel with an ease of mind, allow plenty of time for stopping and go slow enough so you can take in your surroundings and even turn around if you see something of interest. Of course, this type of travels requires you to take proper roads and not the interstates but we’ll talk about in an upcoming travel tip. Until then, go into your roadtrip with a mindset that you might spend an entire day doing something you didn’t have planned and don’t be afraid to get off schedule. It’s the unexpected things and detours that make a road trip the best it can be.
